Who We Are!

Experience Excellence in Vocal Music at LCMS

The Los Cerritos Middle School Choir Program stands as the district's largest vocal music program, with over 150 talented students participating annually. Our award-winning ensembles regularly perform at community events, professional recording studios, and collaborate with established musicians and artists.

Our program features two distinct levels of instruction. At the introductory level, we offer two choirs that welcome all 6th-grade students, as well as 7th and 8th-grade newcomers to vocal music. These foundational ensembles focus on developing two-part harmonies and building essential music reading skills, creating a strong foundation for every singer.

At the advanced level, we maintain three specialized ensembles: two SSA (Soprano/Soprano/Alto) choirs and one TTB (Tenor/Tenor/Bass) choir. These select groups represent Los Cerritos Middle School at competitive Southern California Vocal Association festivals and the prestigious All District Chorus Festival, while also taking on additional performance opportunities throughout the year.

Additionally, our Chamber Choir is an extracurricular ensemble that meets Wednesday afternoons. This prestigious group consists of experienced 7th and 8th-grade singers who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, outstanding citizenship, and superior vocal ability. This is our elite group, as it is the only group that sings SATB (Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass), and performs high school level music. Chamber Choir performs at regular concerts and represents LCMS at special community events.

Our choir program offers an eclectic blend of choral repertoire for the students to sing, as we believe in building well-rounded singers in our program. Students learn and perform in a plethora of genres, ranging from modern pop songs custom tailored to the middle-school voice, traditional choral music, learning both modern compositions and classical compositions dating back to the Renaissance Era, music featured in Broadway, and even some classic rock.

Whether you're an experienced singer or just discovering your voice, our program offers a supportive environment for all students to develop their musical talents. Join our thriving choir family and be part of something extraordinary!

Our Choir Director: Grant Goldstein

Grant Goldstein has always loved music and choral singing, and is honored to be the director of this program.

Grant sang in choirs growing up, but got his start studying music at Moorpark College, where he transferred to California State University, Long Beach. It is there where he studied in Vocal Performance and Choral/Vocal Music Education, earned his major in both of them, and got his credential there as well. Throughout his time, he has worked with prestigious directors both at CSULB and when he was training to be a teacher at Tesoro High school. Once his training was done, he became an assistant director to the previous choir teacher (Mrs. Hague) of LCMS Choir and to Sarge at Newbury Park High School.

Currently, Mr. Goldstein spends his time preparing the students at LCMS Choir for their many performances, and is an arranger of various choral music. His arrangements have been performed by CSULB’s University choir, the Masters of Harmony, and Westminster Chorus, and he’s even had the honor of having his arrangements featured on CD’s and a couple of international debuts! He sometimes combines these trades by arranging custom choral pieces for his own choirs to debut!
